Background to the Hood Aerodrome Issue
The purpose of this web page is to provide information on the major Hood Aerodrome infrastructure project. The project is part funded by a $10m grant from central government as part of it's "Shovel Ready" post Covid19 recovery plan.
Some key dates:
10th July 2019 - Shane Jones (NZ First) asks for regional airports to ask for grants from PGF fund
April 2020 - Masterton Council submits an application for funding an infrastructure project at Hood Aerodrome
15th July 2020 - Grant Robertson announces grant of $10m to MDC Aerodrome project
4th August 2021 - Masterton Council Vote to approve $17m aerodrome project based on the Aerodrome Master Plan
7th June 2023 - Masterton Council states the project will exceed the budget unless scope is reduced
13th September 2023 - At a full Council meeting a resolution is passed to continue with the $17m project but at much reduced scope (no runway extension or related purchase of land, no redirect of Manaia Rd). Cost of $17m is unchanged.
